The Catastrophe}^{. The world-engulfing cataclysm. The memory of it, the dread of it, is still stamped on the collective unconscious of every Indian soul. Myth and legend tell of the last one, whenever it happened, followed by days of darkness and emptiness before the gods assembled to create a new sun. Predictions and prophecies tell of the one to come. Not only those of the Nahuas and Mayas, but that of the contempo ra ry Hopis who believe the end of the world as we know it is not far off. The time will be marked when Saquasohuh, the Blue Star kachina, dances in the plaza. Far off and still invisible, the blue star will make its appea ra nce soon.}

As the Hopi believe the other planets are inhabited, this petroglyph represents a patuwvota, a "flying shield" similar to a "flying saucer" that came here in the Beginning. So now at the End the sacred ones will arrive from another planet by flying saucers. Many Hopi t ra ditionalists recently have reported seeing flying saucers, all piloted by the beings they call kachinas.}

Violent cataclysms have not oblite ra ted it. Mankind has adapted itself to the changes. Races have vanished. One primitive culture, one civilization, arises and falls, to be replaced by another. But mankind remains. If terrestrial catastrophes have often altered the course of human history, all decisive changes in mankind’s development have not been dependent upon them. Rather have they been determined by what seems to be the periodic synchronization of human and cosmic rhythms. Of this periodicity we know little, the scope of the periods is so large. We can only surmise that the physical changes in the surface of the earth and the psychological changes in mankind must be pa ra llel phenomena determined by their coincidence in time. This is why myth, the oldest and most holy witness of the human spirit, is so relevant. It reveals the hidden world that has never faded from human consciousness and bridges the gap between physical and psychical realities.}

Nous ne pouvons que présumer que les changements physiques sur la surface de la Terre et les changements psychologiques dans l’humanité doivent être des phénomènes parallèles déterminés par leur coïncidence dans le temps. Ceci est le mythe des plus vieux et plus saints témoins de l’esprit humain. C’est si important. Ça révèle le monde caché qui ne s’est jamais effacé de la conscience humaine et qui fait le pont entre les réalités physiques et psychiques.}
